Wireless City Construction and Promotion
In December 2015, Guangzhou Computer Network Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Guangzhou CNIC) was formally founded by CNIC, People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality and Nansha Development Zone Administrative Commission of Guangzhou. Located in Nansha District of Guangzhou, Guangzhou CNIC is responsible for the maintenance and industrialization of the National Internet of Things Identification Platform (NIOT).
CNIC has been promoting the construction of wireless city with Nansha as a pilot zone. By the end of 2015, CNIC had completed the first and second phases of wireless city construction in China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone—Nansha Area of Guangzhou with a considerable number of demonstration projects in residence, catering, commerce, Science and Technology Park and other use cases; and controlled more than 1500 hot spots.
Bidong is a service that deploys high-performance hotpots through wechat and cellphone authentication to provide high-speed Wifi to families, rental houses and regions nearby. Apart from meeting people’s everyday demands in using ICT, it can also provide public free wifi. The service group plans to establish or join wifi alliance in down town areas after attracting enough number of core users. Based on the progress of the wireless city project of Guangzhou, Bidong has attracted nearly 100 sites (buildings for rental) with the intention to install the service. 20 small-size or medium-size restaurants and dozens of Chinese medical therapy centers have joined the wifi alliance of Bidong.
