2014 International Workshop of GPU Solutions to Multiscale Problems in Science and Engineering
The International Workshop of MIC-GPU Solutions to Multiscale Problems in Science and Engineering (MIC-GPU2014) was held in Xining on Aug. 23, 2014. Computer Network Information Center (CNIC), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in collaboration with Qinghai Institute of Salt Lakes of CAS hosted the workshop. Fifty attendees from University of Minnesota, University of Western Australia, Tsinghua University and other well-known domestic and foreign universities as well as CAS institutions participated in the workshop.
The topic of the workshop incorporated issues related to the multi-scale science and engineering problems of MIC-GPU solution. The workshop was composed of three parts which included topic reports, participant reports and student reports. The keynote speeches included, Computational Challenges in the Analysis of Petrophysics Using Microtomography and Upscaling by Professor J. Liu, University of Western Australia, Australia, From Matlab to Supercomputing: the Matlab HPC-COMPILER by Dr. Samuel Omlin, University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and PWmat: A Fast CPU/GPU Plane Wave Pseudopotential Density Functional Theory Calculation Package by Dr. Weile Jia, Supercomputing Center, CNIC, CAS.
This workshop promotes the potential usage of GPU and MIC which is helpful for understanding scientific phenomena from the perspective of a scientific computational user with solutions particularly for multi-scale problems in science and engineering.
