Dr. Yanjie Fu from Missouri University of Science and Technology Visited CNIC

Dr. Yanjie Fu from Missouri University of Science and Technology visited the Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on July 18. He made a presentation entitled “Mining Crowd-Sourced Geo-Tagged Data for Understanding and Sustaining Urban Vibrancy” and had an in-depth discussion with relevant researchers and graduate students of CNIC.

During the presentation, Dr. Fu introduced his research on using data mining for supporting smart city which facilitates the selection of more vibrant and sustainable communities by ranking and analyzing the community with factors such as the conditions of the community, the surrounding environment and the utility of the geographical area.

Dr. Yanjie Fu received his Ph.D. degree in Information Technology from Rutgers Business School,Rutgers University in 2016, the B.E. degree in Computer Science from University of Science and Technology of China in 2008, and the M.E. degree in Computer Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2011. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. His research interests include data mining, urban computing, mobile analytics, and personalization techniques. He received the Rutgers Innovation Fellowship (2013), the IEEE ICDM Best Paper Runner-Up Award (2014), and the Dean’s Award for Summer Research (2015). He has research experience in industry research labs, such as Microsoft Research Asia, Huawei Research Labs, and IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center. He has published prolifically in refereed journals and conference proceedings, such as IEEE TKDE, ACM TKDD, IEEE TMC, ACM SIGKDD, IEEE ICDM, and SIAM SDM.
