Two sessions of Public Open Day were held at Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) and its sub-center at Huairou District on May 14 and May 20 respectively.
CNIC opened its doors on May 14 to allow public access to its cyberinfrastructure and research, which attracted more than 290 students, teachers, parents and other visitors from all walks of life. The morning public lecture session combined the briefing on graduate student admission and fascinating insights from five researchers and engineers highlighting the promising areas of network service, high-performance computing, big data, e-science application and Internet of things. Then all visitors take on different interactive tours to CNIC’s cyberinfrastructure facilities and data visualization demonstration environment.
CNIC’s sub-center at Huairou District of Beijing opened its doors on May 20 to let over 140 students and teachers from Huairou Branch of Beijing 101 Middle School into the fascinating world of its high-performance computing research, applications and facilities.
As one of the supporting centers of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, CNIC held the above activities according to the academy’s policy and deployment on Public Open Day, an annual science outreach endeavor across the academy.
