On November 5, 2016, the 2016 Big Data Intelligence Forum (BDA2016), namely the first CNIC Artificial Intelligence Seminar, was held at the International Conference Center of the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Sponsored by the International Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and hosted by the CAS Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) and NVIDIA Corporation, this conference attracted nearly 250 experts in a diversity of academic fields. The conference topics include big data intelligence and GPU computing, big data analysis and deep learning, the application of big data analysis and deep learning, brain-like computing, etc.
During the opening session, Prof. Hua Han, Deputy Director General of CNIC, gave a lecture entitled Development of Brain-like Computing, introducing the current status of brain-like computing research and applications. Mr. Jianzhong Zhang, Global Vice President of NVIDIA, introduced the application of artificial intelligence and related deep learning platforms of NVIDIA. Prof. Hua Han and Mr. Jianzhong Zhang also unveiled the CNIC-NVIDIA joint laboratory for smart medicine and congratulated the establishment of the joint laboratory.
During the morning session, Prof. Lihong Cao, Director of Brain Science & Intelligent Media Department of the Communication University of China, gave a speech entitled Brain-spired Computing and Deep Learning. NSFC Excellent Youth Scholar, Prof. Yu Wang from Tsinghua University, gave a presentation entitled From Model to FPGA: Software-Hardware Co-Design for Efficient Neural Network Acceleration. Prof. Huajin Tang, recipient of China Youth Thousand Talents Award and Director of Brain Computing Center of Sichuan University, gave a presentation entitled Neuromorphic Computing Framework and Applications. Prof. Fleur Zeldenrust from Radboud University of Netherlands gave a speech entitled A Large-scale Model of Sensorimotor Computation. During the afternoon session, 13 professors and experts such as Shengzhong Feng, Di Zhao, Xiaochun Cao, Huiguang He, Ying Liu, Guangming Tan, Tonghua Su and Changyou Zhang made wonderful presentations about their research.
Based on the rapid development of artificial intelligence, BDA2016 incorporates a broad range of topics and provides a useful platform for participants to exchange and discuss relevant ideas and build partnerships for future collaboration.
