Scientific Data Conference Held in Chengdu by CODATA China
The 9th Scientific Data Conference: Scientific Data and Open Science was held in Chengdu by the Chinese National Committee of the Committee on Data of International Science Council (CODATA China) on September 19-21. The conference was convened by CODATA China, and co-organized by China Information Industry Association, National Science Library (Chengdu) Chinese Academy of Sciences and Computer Network Information Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CNIC, CAS). CNIC is the host organization of CODATA China secretariat and co-host organization supporting the International Programme Office of CODATA’s Global Open Science Cloud initiative. More than 700 data experts from different research areas, including academicians, executives from more than 90% national science data centers, public data and scientific data curators attended the conference. Experts from UNESCO Beijing Office, Europe, Africa and Asia also introduced open science initiatives of UNESCO and other countries.
The conference featured 5 forums including forum on the development of National Scientific Data Centers and 42 sessions on four themes related to both local and CODATA’s global priorities including Open Science and Open Data (A: 9 sessions), Frontiers of Data Science across Domains (B: 9 sessions), Scientific Data and AI-driven Science(C: 16 sessions), Software Tools and Infrastructures for Scientific Data Management (D: 8 sessions).
The conference is convened by CODATA China, co-organized by research institutions and CNIC addressing local priorities advised by National Center for Science and Technology Infrastructure and Bureau of Basic and Technology Capacity of CAS. The conference program also addresses cross-domain challenges recommended by CODATA.
