GOSC Enhancing Regional and Global Collaboration at 2024 EGI Conference

Date: Oct 12, 2024

Recently, the 2024 European Grid Infrastructure (EGI) Annual Conference was organized successfully in Lecce, Italy. Hosted by the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), this year’s event brought together hundreds of experts in data science and scientific computing to explore key topics, including digital twins, artificial intelligence, data spaces, cloud computing and security, green computing, and open science cloud infrastructures.

As a strategic partner of EGI, representatives from the China Science and Technology Cloud (CSTCloud) and the Global Open Science Cloud (GOSC) initiative, hosted by the Computer Network Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CNIC, CAS), were invited to participate in a parallel session titled "Global Perspectives on Advancing Open Science through Computational Infrastructures." During the session, delegates shared detailed insights into recent advancements in CSTNet, CSTCloud, and GOSC, and highlighted the deployment strategies of GOSC pilot nodes in the coming years. Exemplified by the newly established China-Kenya GOSC peer node launched in early 2024, GOSC pilot nodes projects are designed to create a distributed, peer-to-peer cloud federation leveraging blockchain technology, aimed at enhancing the aggregation and distribution of cloud resources within the GOSC community. Besides, CSTCloud and GOSC delegates plans to co-host an international training workshop on open science infrastructure for disaster risk reduction in Mongolia. We will further advance the implementation of GOSC regional node projects as we explore new opportunities to expand our regional and global reach (Xueting LI, Lili ZHANG).

We warmly welcome more collaborations!
