Strengthening GOSC-Africa Collaboration: A Dialogue with the African Academy of Sciences
On January 10, GOSC IPO welcomed Prof. Lise Korsten, President of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS), and Prof. Xudong Zhou, AAS Fellow, to visit CNIC, CAS.
During the visit, Prof. Lise Korsten acknowledged GOSC’s efforts in Africa, emphasizing AAS’s shared commitment to open science as a critical driver for the continent’s knowledge-based and innovation-led future. AAS is actively exploring initiatives such as the African Research Initiative for Scientific Excellence (ARISE) and the African Postdoctoral Training Initiative (APTI) to broaden the African science base. Additionally, AAS expressed strong interest in advancing open science infrastructures and platforms for data and resource sharing in domains and disciplines, reaffirming the stakeholders' confidence in the commitment to open science.
“This is a good opportunity to deepen our partnership and explore mutually beneficial collaboration,” remarked Prof. Lise Korsten.
In 2025, GOSC plans to launch its first round of regional testbed nodes supported by Yunkun software stack developed by the CSTCloud Department, CNIC of CAS, leveraging strategic leadership to address shared challenges for open science and SDGs. Partnerships with AAS and other African partners will enhance these efforts, fostering greater impact and deeper engagement across regions and inspiring and motivating the stakeholders.
