A recent GOSC event during the International Data Week 2025
On September 15th, a GOSC session, entitled ‘Open science actions toward achieving the SDGs: an infrastructure dialogue with the Global South’ was delivered during the International Data Week 2025 in Brisbane, Australia.
Building on the ongoing GOSC dialogues, this session focused on developing open science infrastructures that promote Open Science and SDGs in the Global South. Co-organized by the GOSC IPO, the session featured presentations from colleagues at the International Geographical Union, the African Open Science Platform, South Africa's Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the Computer Network Information Center, CAS, and Egypt's National Authority for Remote Sensing & Space Sciences (virtual).
Discussions centered on progress in the African Open Science Platform (AOSP) and the Global Open Science Cloud (GOSC), especially highlighting opportunities for future e-infrastructure development, addressing SDG gaps, and promoting effective and equitable capacity building. Useful toolkits are introduced to redesign data workflows for the scalable implementation of Open Science. Panel discussions expanded on these themes, emphasizing the urgent need for integrated solutions to increase investments in e-infrastructures dedicated to SDGs research and implementation.
Following IDW 2025, the CODATA General Assembly endorsed a GOSC IPO led task group proposal to develop Open Science Cloud Services XI metadata, supporting it for the next two years. This new task group, building on the national standard development by the Standardization Administration of China, will expand the milestones achieved by GOSC over the last five years. Its goal is to create a metadata schema that is both human-understandable and machine-readable, integrating various research resources for cloud service delivery within the Open Science framework.
Co-developed by CNIC, CAS, CODATA and their international partners, the Global Open Science Cloud Initiative is empowered by CSTCloud for interoperable and interconnected cloud solutions in implementing Open Science.
