22nd Public Science Day Held at CNIC
On 16th May, the Computer Network Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences successfully hosted the 22nd Public Science Day event themed "AI Unlocks New Knowledge, VR Explores Cutting-Edge Tech — Internet Exploration Tour". More than 260 members of the public attended the event. Through science lectures, interactive experiences, immersive VR sessions and live online streaming, the event took participants on an exciting journey to explore the history of the internet and discover the latest advances in artificial intelligence.

Opening Remarks
Long Chun, Deputy Director of the center, delivered an opening speech. Drawing inspiration from A Letter from the Birthplace of the Internet, he revisited the groundbreaking development of the internet in China and highlighted the spirit of self-reliance and resilience among scientific and technological workers.

Science Up Close: AI Insights from Experts
During the "Science Face-to-Face" session, young experts in artificial intelligence shared in-depth yet accessible insights.
Pei Changhua, Associate Researcher, gave a talk titled Taming My AI. He simplified complex coding principles into a fun "guide to taming AI beasts", explaining vividly that AI is not an all-powerful myth but a "smart partner" that needs careful guidance and patient tuning from humans.

Cheng Yihang, PhD, presented SciMatrix: The AI Scientist. In simple language, he answered kids’ questions like "How does AI learn?" and "What do AI scientists do every day?" He also demonstrated how large language model agents power modern scientific research.

Fun Interactive Experiences
The venue featured diverse interactive zones: immersive VR experiences, live chats with AI scientists, and a "Beauty of Science" exhibition showcasing the wonders of large scientific facilities. A "Cloud Exploration" live stream drew nearly 50,000 online viewers, allowing people nationwide to join the fun remotely and experience the charm of cutting-edge tech without leaving home.
