Recommended by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and approved by International Telecommunication Union (ITU, click here to link to the website), CNIC was accepted formally as ITU Academia participant in January 2018. Since then, CNIC has become the fourth CAS institute in the ITU member list and the thirty-fourth ITU member in China. By joining ITU, CNIC plays a more active role in participating in the academic activities of ITU-T to contribute to the development of new work items on the global view of intelligent future network and IoT identification.

International Telecommunication Union is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for issues that concern information and communication technologies. The ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) is one of the three sectors of the International Telecommunication Union and it coordinates standards for telecommunications.
